s/v Steel Appeal is a sturdy, high quality-built steel sailing vessel, designed for offshore voyages. This Van De Stadt Seal center cockpit design was built in 1992 and commissioned in 1993 by the Ray Harris Marine shipyard in Barry, South Wales. s/v Steel Appeal is a special 2 owner vessel, her current owners bought her in 2007 and by 2011 they moved aboard full time to start their amazing sailing adventure. This proven blue water cruiser was sailed thousands of miles from Portugal to the Caribbean in 2015/16 and also sailed throughout the Caribbean to Guatemala where she now waits for her next exciting sailing adventure.
S/v Steel Appeal has recently gone through a major refit, has been well maintained and has all you need to go cruising. She is set up for long distance cruising with 920 watts of solar and 2 independent solar regulators, all installed Dec. 2022. There is a 1000w 12v to 240v power inverter and 240v shore power inlet with Marine battery charger. The four 110w Gel Cell house batteries are all new installed Dec. 2022 and there’s one 110 Ah starter battery, new in 2021.
This vessel is equipped with a well-maintained BMC 1.8, 45hp diesel engine with the fuel consumption of approximately 4L/1Gal per hour, very economical! Her sails are all in good condition: the Genoa has a new sacrificial strip done May 2022, and the mainsail is fully battened with a stack pack cover. Other sails included are Cutter sail, Storm sail and Cruising Chute. The standing rigging was inspected and there’s new running rigging, both done May 2022. Her mast and boom are made of Douglas Fir wood, and the mast was refurbished in May 2022. Last year the bottom paint was redone with new anodes and the thru hulls were serviced.
S/v Steel Appeal is a 3-cabin layout and has an incredible amount of storage space. New flooring was laid in 2022, and the salon table raises to the cabin roof to enable you to walk under for extra space. There is a full galley which includes: a faucet with electric and alternative foot pump for freshwater, saltwater hand pump, and a stainless-steel Force 10 oven with a 2-burner stove top. The fridge with 12v compressor is in the salon seating area. In the Forward cabin there is a workbench and fold-down single berth with lots of storage and a forepeak to stow smaller sails. The Aft cabin has a comfortable double berth with plenty of storage under the bed, 2 large drawers and 2 large wardrobe lockers, and a chaise lounge with TV and sound bar. In the aft there is also easy access to the stern gear, autopilot, and electric panel.
There are many other upgrades and extras that have been done: the doghouse has a newly installed hatch on top as well as a front window that opens for more ventilation. The 4 winches in the cockpit and the 2 winches in the doghouse were serviced May 2022. All new Sunbrella covers were done in 2022 for the winches, instrument pedestal, rope bags, as well as a full rain canopy. There is also no shortage of navigation and safety equipment aboard.
