S/V Free Spirit is now officially on the market! This exquisite 2007 Island Packet 485, designed by the renowned Bob Johnson and meticulously crafted by Island Packet Yachts, stands as a testament to safety and comfort, whether you're embarking on coastal cruising or daring to circumnavigate the globe. Over the years, Island Packet Yachts has earned its reputation as one of America's premier sailing yacht manufacturers, recognized with numerous national awards for product excellence. The IP485 features a full keel design that leads to a lower pintle rudder, utilizing Full Foil Keel technology to encapsulate the keel without the worry of keel bolts!
This vessel has a rich sailing history; S/V Free Spirit was purchased directly from the factory in 2007. Her first owners extensively sailed her from France through the Mediterranean, even completing two Atlantic crossings. In 2017, the current owners acquired her in France and navigated her back to Turkey, where they undertook preparations for another Atlantic crossing, including the addition of new sails and standing rigging. After enjoying extensive sailing in Turkey, S/V Free Spirit cruised through Sardinia, The Balearic Islands, and Spain, ultimately passing through the Gibraltar Straits to Gran Canaria and across the Atlantic. Since 2021, she has been exploring the Caribbean and is currently docked in the beautiful Rio Dulce, Guatemala.
S/V Free Spirit boasts luxurious accommodations, offering ample living and storage space both inside and out. The interior is adorned with stunning solid teak and oak soles throughout, creating an inviting atmosphere. The spacious salon serves as a central hub, while the navigation station is both comfortable and fully equipped. This impressive vessel comfortably sleeps 6 to 9 guests, featuring an owner's cabin aft with an offset double island berth, a forward guest stateroom and head with a double island berth, and a midship twin guest cabin. The guest cabin is across from the forward head and includes two single bunks. The salon seating can be utilized as an additional single bed on the port side, with the starboard sofa easily converting into an extending double bed. Lee cloths are available for the crew cabin and salon sofas as well as fitted bed sheets for aft, forward and crew cabin beds. All cabins and the galley feature 12V fans for added comfort on warmer days.
The gourmet galley is outfitted with digitally-controlled refrigerator and freezer compartments, designed for easy access with double gasketed drop-front lids on gas support struts. Each compartment can be set to operate as either refrigerated or frozen storage. Both luxurious heads are equipped with vanities featuring solid acrylic countertops, separate shower stalls with seating, folding acrylic doors, and standard VacuFlush heads.
S/V Free Spirit is fully equipped for offshore self-sufficiency or extended anchoring, making her an ideal choice for the adventurous sailor. The vessel features two mono-crystalline 340W solar panels paired with a Victron MPPT controller, ensuring reliable power generation. Additionally, a Maspower MP8M 6Kva (50Hz) generator allows you to remain off-grid with ease. The D60 Dessalator water maker has a maximum output of 15 US gallons per hour, ensuring your water tanks stay full, with a total water capacity of 300 US gallons spread across two GRP tanks, plus an extra 40 gallons designated for flushing the heads. Additionally, there’s a 60 US-gallon holding tank with deck or sea discharge capability featuring a macerator pump. For fuel, the vessel has a generous capacity of 300 US gallons stored in a single marine-grade aluminum tank.
Powering this remarkable vessel is a robust Yanmar 4JH4-HTE diesel engine with an impressive output of 100 horsepower. This powerful engine allows the boat to reach a maximum speed of 7.5 knots, while maintaining a comfortable cruising speed of 6.5 knots. The boat's design includes conveniently accessible Racor primary fuel filters for both the engine and generator, making maintenance straightforward and hassle-free.
To enhance maneuverability in tight spaces, the Island Packet 485 is equipped with a side power bow thruster, complemented by an additional battery for reliable performance. This feature is especially beneficial when docking or navigating through narrow channels, giving you the confidence to handle the vessel with ease. For added safety during unexpected situations, an emergency tiller with a storage system is thoughtfully included, ensuring easy access and fitting. To facilitate shore access, a brand-new AB 9.5m Dinghy (2023) equipped with a 15HP 2-stroke Yamaha Enduro Outboard is also included.
