S/v Backstage Pass is a 1979 C&C Landfall 38. These vessels were designed by Robert W. Ball and built by C&C Yachts of Ontario, Canada with a reputation for competitive racers and racer/cruisers. The Landfall 38 was first introduced in 1979 and continued production until 1985 and is known for its handling and performance, easily balanced and driven at all points of sail. The sail area displacement ratio is 15.9 and displacement length ratio is 271, both of which are reasonable for this type of cruiser. The Landfall 38 was built as a variation of the original 38, but with a shallower keel at a 5’ draft and a shorter rig, plus a different interior.
The current owners have had s/v Backstage Pass for about 30 years, sailing her on many adventures throughout the USA, Bahamas, the Caribbean and Central America. She now waits for her next adventure in the Rio Dulce. Over the last couple years there have been some new upgrades: The bottom and topsides were painted in 2023. While the canvas has been renewed along the way, the dodger is new in 2024. The topside varnish is fresh and the new teak and holly flooring was finished in 2024. She also has a new head. There are years of spares on board as well as tools.
S/v Backstage Pass is powered by a 1979 Yanmar 30 hp Model: 3HM/3QM diesel engine, the hours are unknown, but it has been well maintained. The oil and filters have been changed as well as the transmission and V Drive lubricants. The engine is also easily started and run every month, no issues. There are 2 fuel tanks, the main holds 50 gallons and 17 gallons in a second tank. The fuel tanks are nearly new and were also cleaned. All sails are in good condition; the Mainsail is partially battened, the Headsail is with a great working roller furling, and there is also an Asymmetrical Drifter sail in good condition. All the halyards run to the cockpit for easy handling and all the winches are self-tailing.
On the interior, this vessel has 6.5ft headroom and a 12ft beam with ample seating for more guests in the salon. The galley has plenty of storage and provides a 4-burner propane stove with oven. There is refrigeration but it has recently stopped working. There are 3 fresh water tanks on board which provide 100 gallons of water in total. In deck boxes on the exterior there are two 20lbs propane tanks.
S/v Backstage Pass has been kept in good condition and has provided the current owners with many good years of sailing adventures. They say “she is a boat that loves to sail!! She’s faster than most 45 footers with a very comfortable motion”. This proven vessel is worth a look!
