S/V Baboss is now on the market! This 1985 Alubat Ovni 37 Sonate, showcases the renowned craftsmanship of the Alubat shipyard, located in Les Sables-d'Olonne. Designed by the esteemed Philippe Briand, this vessel is a testament to the brand's legacy of creating rugged, sail anywhere aluminum cruisers. The Ovni 37 Sonate is constructed from 6mm of 5083 H111 aluminum and features a hard-chined hull. With a versatile design, specifically engineered for high-latitude exploration and shallow-water cruising, this vessel includes a ballasted hull and a fully retracting keel and rudder (minimum draft of 0.55 meters and a maximum draft of 2.05 meters), allowing it to be beached in tidal zones with complete stability.
The interior of the Ovni Sonate is beautifully designed for comfort and practicality that caters to long-term cruising needs, boasting a roomy layout with 1.9 meters headroom and a beam of 3.61 meters. The two-cabin version is especially sought after for its massive cockpit locker and increased galley storage. The galley is outfitted with large double sinks, a two-burner stove with oven, and new refrigeration, providing the perfect setup for preparing meals while at sea. The head is located aft behind the galley with a manual Jabsco marine toilet. Across from the galley the navigation station is generously sized and equipped with ample electronics. Behind the nav. Station aft is a private cabin with double berth and a large opening port and plenty of storage. The spacious salon features a folding table at the center, flanked by settees that can be used as single berths, for extra guests. The forward cabin offers a comfortable double berth and benefits from a large opening hatch that promotes excellent airflow.
S/V Baboss is powered by a 50hp Perkins 4-108 diesel engine, which was professionally refurbished in 2021 with all parts reconditioned, including a new fuel pump and head gasket. The sail inventory is impressive; the main sail is in good condition with three reefs and fully battened with a stack pack, while the headsail was custom-made in France in 2014 and has only seen about eight months of use. Additionally, the vessel is equipped with a removable forestay, storm jibs in good condition, and a symmetrical spinnaker complete with a sock and pole, making S/V Baboss a fantastic choice for various sailing conditions.
Since acquiring S/V Baboss in 2011, the current owners have made numerous upgrades to enhance the functionality and comfort. They replaced the rigging in 2012 while in France, installed a new headsail in 2014, and enjoyed cruising the Caribbean from 2015 to 2018. Significant upgrades continued with boom reinforcement in Martinique in 2018, new teak cockpit and nonskid in 2021, and a new teak floor in 2023. The deck was repainted with anti-slip patches in 2022, ensuring safety while onboard. The Loran Cayman 1000W electric windlass is brand new and never used and the aluminum plate underneath was cut and replaced due to salt water corrosion. There is also 200W of solar with an MPPT charge controller for your extra power needs. While S/V Baboss is in good condition, she has not been at sea since 2018.
