Introducing S/V No Cry, a 1994 Hunter Legend 37.5. The Hunter Legend was built from 1990 – 1997 by Hunter Marine (USA), and designed by The Hunter Design Group. This model was one of Hunter’s most successful models. These vessels are still very popular and have retained their value as a result of quality construction and a solid reputation as a racer and coastal cruiser. The Hunter Legend is fractional rigged, and performs exceptionally in light air, perhaps due to the high sail area-to-displacement ratio. S/V No Cry is the shoal draft version and with a 4.11ft draft Australian wing keel, she is capable of exploring more shallow waters.
Not only is the Hunter Legend 37.5 capable of winning races, but it is also designed for live-aboard comfort. On the interior, S/V No Cry is spacious and well laid out with 6.2ft headroom and a 12.11ft beam. There are 5 hatches and 9 opening ports for excellent cross ventilation with Hella 12v fans throughout. This 2-cabin layout has a large v berth stateroom with plenty of storage. The salon is bright and spacious with a dinette to port that converts to a double berth. The u-shaped dinette has ample room to seat extra guests comfortably. The galley located on the port side is well-equipped with a 3 burner Force 10 propane stove with gimbaled oven, double stainless-steel sinks with a 12v electric pump to run the galley water. For refrigeration there is a well insulted Adler Barber cold machine with twin openings, plus an Ingel Portable Freezer. The private Master Stateroom in the aft has a cozy queen berth with abundant storage lockers and is accessed through the galley or the head. The head is accessed from the aft cabin and the salon. The spacious head is equipped with a manual Raritan toilet, sink and a shower.
S/V No Cry is powered by a meticulously maintained 37hp Yanmar 33H2E diesel engine with 3500hrs. Her sail inventory includes: a Main Sail with flaking system that has 2 reefing points with a Sunbrella LAZY bag (fair condition). The Headsail is Hood furling with 110 Genoa in good condition. All stainless-steel rigging is in great condition. There are 2 Lewmar #44 2 speed sheet winches, Lewmar #30 2 speed cabin top winches and 2 more winches added on the mast (one 2 speed for jiffy reefing). The cockpit is roomy with a large fold-able wheel at the helm and all lines are leading to the cockpit for easier single handle sailing.
This vessel has been outfitted to go cruising. The current owner installed 3 new 145-watt solar panels, six 6v Trojan batteries for the house bank and one 12v group 27 battery for the engine start (new 6 months old), with a True Charge 40amp battery charger. There is a new 2yr old water maker that works off of the 12v solar system to help keep the aluminum tanks full. The elaborate stainless-steel arch with davits will aid in lifting the 9.84ft Caribe dinghy and 8hp Yamaha outboard. There is no shortage of ground tackle consisting of: a Lofans Progress electric windlass with foot switches and a feet counter at the helm. The stainless-steel bow roller holds the 60lb Rocna anchor with 200ft chain and 100ft rode, a Danforth with 50ft chain and 100ft rode and a 40lb plow anchor with 20ft chain and 100ft rode.
Additional improvements were made over the years: the hull has been kept in good shape with 6 coats of bottom barrier coat in 1998 and 2 coats of bottom paint in 2020, then 2 more coats in 2023. The bow and stern rails are stainless and the stainless stanchions have double coated life lines. Also added is a Whale manual cockpit bilge pump, emergency tiller and a fresh water wash-down in the cockpit.
If you are looking for a speedy, coastal cruiser with a solid reputation and with comfortable live-aboard accommodations, then S/V No Cry is ready to sail away!
