Here is a unique opportunity to own S/V Indian Summer, a beautiful classic 1985 Laurent Giles 38, a Laurent Giles design built under the supervision of yacht architect Maarten van der Vlis in Harlingen, Netherlands, the hull and deck moldings were made by Blondicell in Southampton, UK. This elegant encapsulated long-keel cutter with skeg rudder and tiller steering, is a traditional heavy built proven blue water cruiser.
The first owners bought S/V Indian Summer in 1985. Their extensive sailing journey began in Harlingen, navigating through the Kiel Canal to the Baltic Sea. In June 1986, they embarked on an unforgettable voyage to the Mediterranean, passing through various stunning locations including Scheoemingen, Dartmouth, La Coruna, Vigo, Lisbon, Villamoura, Cadiz, and Gibraltar. The adventure continued through Spain, the Balearic Islands, Sardinia, Sicily, and Malta, where they wintered the vessel. S/V Indian Summer has since sailed through the beautiful Aegean, Peloponnese, and Chalkidiki, as well as the western and southern coasts of Turkey, proving its capability as a reliable cruiser. The current owners bought S/V Indian Summer in 1998 and have also cruised extensively in the Mediterranean, Iberian Peninsula, United Kingdom, Atlantic and the Caribbean. Now she is moored in the beautiful Rio Dulce, Guatemala waiting for her next adventure.
On the interior, the Giles 38, has a warm and traditional layout that provides space for up to seven people in two cabins and a convertible salon with 6.2ft head room. The brightwork throughout is in good condition. There are 2 double berths, including one in the v-berth and another in the starboard aft pilot berth. A spacious salon converts to additional sleeping space, perfect for accommodating guests or family. There is 1 head with shower with a Comfort Mate toilet. The galley to port has plenty of counter space and storage and is equipped with a Techimpex XL3 stove with oven, and a Frigoboat fridge and freezer. For extra ventilation there are 10 opening port lights and 2 large hatches forward.
S/V Indian Summer is powered by a 2008 Yanmar 3JH4E diesel engine with 1,290 hours. Smart engine regulators were installed (Mastervolt Alpha 12v and 24v). A Sleipner SP 75T (24v) bow thruster has also been installed for extra control. The sail inventory is in good shape and consists of: Main sail 34 sq. m, a head sail Genoa 51 sq. m with Furlex roller furling, and an 18 sq. m staysail. There is plenty of navigation and communication equipment on board: a SSB short wave radio: Icom IC-M710 & AT-130E Tuner, Chart plotter, Simrad autopilot, Standard Horizon GX2200 and a Furuno 1715 radar that may need replacing.
On the exterior, the Giles 38 has a large, deep, wrap around cockpit for your comfort and safety which also includes an abundant amount of storage. The ground tackle consists of: a Lewmar Horizontal H2 24v (needs electrical reconnected), CQR 20kg with 38’ of 5/16” chain with 160’ of rope, Bruce anchor 20kg with 60’ of 5/16” chain with 150’ rope and a Viking kedge anchor. This vessel is being sold with an Avon Rover 280 dinghy and a 5hp Yamaha 2 stroke outboard. For your power needs a new Mastervolt Chargemaster 24v/30amp was installed in 2025. There is also a portable Honda EX 350 generator on board for extra power when needed.
The current owners are selling this wonderful vessel with many spare parts with a detailed list of equipment on board. Although S/V Indian Summer will need a few upgrades and repairs before she is ready to sail, she is a proven blue water cruiser capable of taking you anywhere in the world!
