Introducing S/V Kanthaka, this unique 1998 Alubat Ovni 43 has been kept in immaculate condition! These vessels were designed by Philippe Briand and built by Alubat, based in Les Sables D’Olonne, France. Known for their pioneering use of aluminum, Alubat is celebrated for producing approximately 50 high-quality cruising yachts annually, each one crafted entirely from aluminum. This ensures not only durability but also versatility, as demonstrated by the Ovni 43's lifting keel and rudder, allowing it to navigate shallow waters and be easily beached. Many of these robust blue water cruisers continue to sail the world's oceans today.
S/V Kanthaka underwent a comprehensive refit in 2024 in Barcelona, preparing her for a circumnavigation. Despite crossing the Atlantic this past winter, her current owners, due to unforeseen circumstances, have decided to embark on new ventures, offering a unique opportunity for a new owner to step aboard a fully prepared vessel.
On the interior the Alubat Ovni 43 has utilized every bit of space with her inverted and rounded bow, giving her full length at the waterline. The interior was very well maintained by the previous owner who had it for 10 years with stunning woodwork throughout and beautiful teak and holly floors. She is a 3-cabin version with a pullman style master cabin having a double and a single bed, followed by a head in the front V berth and storage locker under the anchor windlass. There are twin cabins aft, portside with a wide double bed, starboard side with a double and a single above. There are two heads with marine toilets. The galley is the "famous" "L" design original to the OVNI 43. The galley is equipped with a 3 burner propane stove with oven, double sinks and refrigeration and an air fryer electric stove. There is also a 16-gallon water maker and a new JABSCO water pump installed. The galley, salon and forward cabins have large opening hatches for plenty of ventilation, and there are fans in the salon and 2 cabins with LED lighting in all cabins and salon.
S/V Kanthaka is powered by a reliable Yanmar MD22 55hp original diesel engine with 8400hrs, which has been meticulously maintained. During the 2024 refit, mechanics advised against replacing it due to its exceptional performance and longevity, opting instead for a full mechanical revision, including revised injectors, a new Yanmar electrical board and key, and a new gearbox. The sail inventory consists of a mainsail with a stack pack and a headsail and forestay, both with roller furling and in good condition. The 2024 upgrades included the replacement of all standing rigging with top-tier racing BSI quality, Dyneema halyards, and roller line for running rigging, new Genoa sheets, boom and reef lines, and a new Vang. Comprehensive electrical updates were made to the mast, including new navigation and floodlights, as well as a suite of the latest 2024 navigation equipment featuring a Vulcan Chart plotter, Halo Radar, AIS active responder, and a Raymarine autopilot.
This vessel has all you need to stay offshore for long periods. She carries 158 gallons of water in 2 tanks and 100 gallons of fuel in 3 tanks. She has a Hydro generator for extra power needs and in 2024 she was outfitted with: 900 watts of solar (2 x 450w panels), Victron charge controller, 2000w Pure Sine Inverter. Also new is a 1500W windlass and a 33kg Vulcan anchor.
S/V Kanthaka is fully prepared with all the necessary spare parts, tools and safety equipment. There is a brand new off shore life raft, Iridium GO satellite phone, EPIRB beacon, Harnesses, and Safety equipment & grab bag. Also, in 2020 the deck paint was redone and still looks nearly new.
S/V Kanthaka represents a rare opportunity to own a well-maintained, fully equipped blue-water cruiser, perfect for liveaboard lifestyles. She is turn-key and ready to embark on new adventures. Whether you dream of crossing oceans or exploring secluded bays, this versatile and robust vessel is ready to make those dreams a reality!
